GREEN TEA: A DIVINE GIFT FOR ORAL HEALTH

Though long in use in various parts of the world as an everyday beverage, the researches on the oral health benefits of green tea have been relatively recent and it has been found to possess exceptional qualities that can maintain as well as strengthen the oral health, especially dental health. The substances such as Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) are available in abundance in green tea which are perceived to play a crucial role in improvement of the oral health. Green tea also consists of other anti-oxidants which can act as free radical scavengers as well as health supportive elements. Its extra ordinary ability to prevent oral diseases for instance dental caries, periodontitis, halitosis and oral cancer is now commonly known to the experts as well as general public. The primary objective of this publication is to summarize the findings of various researches conducted on the effects of green tea on the oral cavity.
